

Introduction
In the upcoming pages we will outline and describe both what it means to be LGTBQ2S+ and whether or not we should make meaningful strides to incorporate LGTBQ2S+ studies into our curriculum.

For the purposes of this website, we will define LGTBQ2S+ studies as a topic that should be covered in various different topics (such as history, english, and health).
Concepts and Definitions
Heteronormativity - The belief that heterosexuality is the "norm" and that other identities are the exception
Identity - The concept one has about themselves
"Coming Out" - To make one's identity publicly known
Safe Spaces - Areas where one's identity is welcomed and protected against discrimination and harassment
Two-Spirited - a Native person who has both a masculine and feminine spirit, in reference to sexual, gender and/or spirital identity.

G - Gay
T- Transgender
B - Bisexual
Q - Queer
2S - Two-Spirited

HIV/ AIDS
Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which commonly leads to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
What is homophobia? What about transphobia?
Homophobia is the dislike and/or prejudice against gay people. Transphobia is the dislike and/or prejudice against trans individuals.
What is a stigma?
A stigma is a strong feeling of disapproval shared by most people in a society.
