Why we should not add LGTBQ2s+ studies to our schools
There are no academic sources that state that LGBTQ2S+ issues should not be taught in schools. Shown here is where society has moved in terms of opinion on the subject.
PLEASE NOTE
OVERVIEW
The LGBTQ2S+ community still has many issues it must face but should they really be taught in schools? No, the LGBTQ2S+ issues should not because unless the teacher is comfortable with teaching the issues they should not be forced to teach it. If a teacher is unfamiliar or does not want to teach the LGBTQ2S+ issues it should be their right to refuse.

One argument that teachers may use is that the LGBTQ2S+ lifestyle goes against their religious beliefs and as such they do not wish to teach it. Another issue is that if the teacher does not identify as part of the LGBTQ2S+ community they may be unaware of all the issues that are surrounding the community. The teacher may also just not want to teach the LGBTQ issues because it does not fit into their plan and so they decide to leave it out. Teachers should have the right to decide if they want to teach the subject or not.

In some states in the United States of America (USA) it is illegal for teachers to discuss LGBTQ2S+ issues through the states No Promo Homo laws. The eight states that have the No Promo Homo laws are: Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and, Utah. With No Promo Homo laws not teaching LGBTQ2S+ issues is easy because no one will ever question you for not doing it but the laws can cause issues when you do want to teach the issues but cannot.

Religion
Religion is another aspect to why LGBTQ2S+ issues should not be taught in schools. Many Religions preach against Homosexuality in some way. Religious people may not be comfortable having their heterosexual children taught anything about the LGBTQ2S+ community because it may give their children the wrong idea that it is alright to be homosexual. The question becomes should public schools respect the religious beliefs of the students and their families when religion is to be removed from the school? Yes, public schools should respect the views of the people to whom are trusting the education of the children to them. Along with this religious schools like Catholic schools should not be forced to teach LGBTQ2S+ issues as they are a religion that often preaches against homosexuality. Religion and Religious beliefs play a major role in why public and another type of school should not include any LGBTQ2S+ content in classes.

Finally, parents should have the right to decide what their children are learning in school. The parent does not have be religious in order the disagree with their child being taught about LGBTQ2S+ issues because they know their child and know what the child can handle. If a parent is not comfortable with having the school teach the subject of LGBTQ2S+ issues then they should not be labeled a bigot but their wishes should be respected. The parents may want to tell their children about the LGBTQ2S+ issues on their own so they can control the information that is being given. They may also not want their children exposed to the LGBTQ2S+ issues at all and the school should respect that wish. The question is when do schools over step and need to reevaluate the school’s own practices? When the school do not listen to the wishes and desires of the parents they have over stepped and need to reevaluate. Regardless if a student is not going to get LGBTQ2S+ exposure at home or not if the parent does not what their child exposed at school then the school should respect that parents wishes. The parents know what is best for their child and so they can make the best choice on what their child needs.
